Highest crime rates in America
U.S. counties ranked by highest violent crime rate per 100,000 residents.
Crime data coming soon
County-level crime figures are being compiled from the FBI Crime Data Explorer and will be added to this ranking shortly. The FBI's transition to the National Incident-Based Reporting System (NIBRS) in 2021 caused reporting gaps at the county level: some agencies haven't fully migrated, so the data needs careful cleaning to be comparable across the country.
Crime statistics describe reporting incidents per capita; they don't fully capture under-reporting, rural-vs-urban differences in policing intensity, or population-of-the-day effects in tourist or commuter areas. Treat county-level crime rates as one signal among many, not as a verdict on a place.
