How do I compare two US cities or counties?
Type the name of any two US counties or cities in the search boxes above. We have pre-built comparison pages for the most-searched pairings, and you can mix and match any of our 3,144 county profiles.
What does the comparison show?
Each comparison shows side-by-side figures for rent (by bedroom count), household income, individual earnings, home values, property tax, energy costs, healthcare premiums, state income tax, sales tax, transportation, and an estimated total monthly cost for a single person, couple and family.
Where does the data come from?
All figures come from official U.S. government sources including the Census Bureau (ACS 5-Year Estimates), HUD Fair Market Rents, the Energy Information Administration, and the Tax Foundation. See our methodology for details.
Are the numbers comparable across states?
Yes. We use the same data sources and definitions for every county, so the figures are directly comparable. Where state-specific factors apply (such as income tax), we surface those distinctions clearly in the comparison.
